Congratulations to David W. Pershing, New President of the U of U

The College of Education is pleased to welcome and congratulate Dr. David W. Pershing as the 15th President of the University of Utah. Dr. Pershing is currently the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of Utah. He is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering who has spent the last 14 years in a crucial leadership role at the University of Utah. Dr. Pershing joined the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering in 1977, and was named a Presidential Young Investigator by the National Science Foundation in 1984. He became Dean of the College of Engineering in 1987. He holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, both in Chemical Engineering.

President-Elect Pershing has been a driving force behind several major interdisciplinary initiatives within the College of Education, including but certainly not limited to the University Center for Science and Math Education (a partnership of the College of Science); the Teacher Education Arts and Education Initiative (with the College of Fine Arts) and the Center for Integrating Arts into Academic Learning (currently under development with the College of Fine Arts in collaboration with several College of Education research Centers to be housed in the new Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts and Education Complex on the U campus. President-Elect Pershing will take over the leadership and responsibilities of his position in March 2012.
